Parents gave us a lot of love, raised us, paid for summer vacation and gave us toys and stuff, but it doesn’t mean we should offer them our lives as a token of appreciation.
That’s not our role here, provide our parents with a “success story” to share at gatherings.
Our role in this world is to contribute the best we can to the society. Use our talents and make sure we add the greatest value possible to other people’s lives.
There are upwards of 7,5 billion people in this world, goddamn!
And if parents guilt-trip their children into making them proud, that’s utterly selfish.
So all parents should ask themselves:
Am I this selfish asshole of a person who wants things only for himself / herself? Am I guilt-tripping my child into doing things which will make me proud?
