The consequences of people’s conventional approach to life

[ 2 min read ]

I think we should consider the consequences of people’s conventional approach to life and ask ourselves several important questions, like:

How the thought that you’ll retire at a certain age (living with this idea from the moment you go to school or kindergarten until you actually retire) affects your choices in your late teenage years, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s?

How the thought that you’ll retire at a certain age (living with this idea from the moment you go to school or kindergarten until you actually retire) affects your health?

How the thought that with each passing year you’re nearer and nearer this moment when you will be considered too old or unfit to do the work, any work, (because they brainwashed you and you assumed that that’s the way life is) affects your health?

How the thought that with each passing year you’re nearer and nearer this moment when you should already make room for the young, that although not yet dead you stop being active professionally and they take over (because they brainwashed you and you assumed that that’s the way life is) affects your health?

How the thought that with each passing year you’re nearer and nearer this moment when the only role you’ll have is that of a parent, grandparent or only a patient, or a friend of your retired friends (because there is nothing else left in your life) affects your health?

How the thought that with each passing year you’re nearer and nearer this moment when you’ll be no longer contributing any value to the society (because you aren’t contributing anything when you’re only waiting for your end) affects your health?

I have no doubt that doing it the unconventional way (ridding yourself of the notion that you will retire like everybody else, always betting on dreams and passion, having dreams and aspirations even as a senior citizen) would help most people be happier, less anxious, have fewer regrets.
