On taking advice from people I wouldn’t take advice from
The problem with life goals

My definition of success

[ 1 min read ]

To me success means:

Avoiding being brainwashed by the majority

Avoiding mindlessly following the flock

Avoiding mindlessly mimicking others

Avoiding mindlessly repeating dumb clichés about life, career, love, relationships, education, parenting, etc.

Avoiding being intimidated into compliance by my family

Avoiding being discouraged by what others (including my family) think about my life philosophy and choices

Avoiding making my decisions and choices contingent on someone else’s approval, understanding, acceptance of them, or someone else’s satisfaction (especially my parents’ and family’s)

Avoiding being discouraged by what others (including my family) think about my work

Never listening to people who tell me what is and what isn’t possible

Never listening to people who tell me what ‘success’ is and what it isn’t

Never listening to people who tell me what is best for me

Being OK with the price I have to pay for my life choices

Not being delusional about life. In other words, understanding that shit (unfortunate events and choices/ decisions) are an integral part of life and no matter how hard I’ll try (or how many times I’d start over) there is no escaping them — shit will always happen.
