The cultured mind. Part 4
Fuck! It’s still keeping up with the Joneses.

What does not worrying what other people say include?

[ 2 min read ]

Does it include not giving a damn what people think about your life philosophy?

Does it include not giving a damn what those who are viewed as successful by the majority think about your idea / definition of success in life?

Does it include choosing not to take advice from the people who are viewed as successful by the majority?

Does it include not buying into the definition of success which is propagated by the media?

Does it include choosing not to listen to people (all sorts of gurus, coaches, motivational speakers, and the like, whose popularity is on the rise) who believe that they are among the very few people on this planet who figured out what life is all about and how each of us should live it?

Does it include listening to an influencer, or some authority figure, or reading a bestselling book, and still being able / ready / willing to reject their theses about life (career, love, parenting, success, happiness), or even call it a horseshit?

Does it include not agreeing with people who are being presented to us as the most successful people on this planet?

Does it include listening only to yourself when quite obviously you’re not viewed as a successful human being by the majority (when you’re closer to being viewed as a failure by the majority)?

Does it include standing your ground when people who are viewed by the majority as way more successful than you mock your life philosophy?

Does it include standing your ground when people from your family (who want only the best for you, as the cliché goes) mock your life philosophy, and say that they don’t understand you?

I believe it should include all of the above. Not worrying what other people say should include not only what your haters or naysayers say about you and your plans and ideas, but also not giving a damn about the life philosophies and theories of those who are among the most influential / successful / powerful people on this planet (who are presented to us as such and who are as a result viewed as such by the majority). It should especially include not letting those who nowadays say that they figured out what life is all about (that they have it all sorted out, that they were lost but now they’re not) and know how life should be lived tell us what to believe or pursue in life. It should include not being brainwashed by anyone.
